FRIDAY MAY 20TH ACROBATIC ARTS EXAM DAY WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!
On Exam Day 21 Acrobatic Dancers put their Strength, Balance, Flexibility, Limbering and Tumbling to the Test. MDA Results were Outstanding across the board. Eleven Dancers Received Medals of Distinction which is the highest Level Awarded to a Acro Dancer with Acrobatic Arts. A very proud day for the Muskoka Dance Academy and its Acro 🙂

BIG DAY FOR MDA DANCER ANDREA HILL AT THE UNIVERSIY OF WATERLOO PERFORMING ARTS THEATRE!
Fourteen year old MDA dancer, Andrea Hill, attended an event called The Battle of the Next Generation on Sunday August 27th. This event was designed specifically for dancers looking at professional opportunities in the industry. It is an annual Scholarship Competition and was recently held at the University of Waterloo. A jammed packed day of Audition Classes, Interviews and Solo Competitions along with Question and Answer seminars with Casting Agencies, Modelling Photographers and personalities from Video, Movie and Film. This event was a great experience for Andrea giving her insight into the world of dance outside of the studio. Wanting to pursue dance as a career and knowing how to do it are two very different processes. Having more perspective on both is crucial education for a young aspiring dancer. Andrea was awarded Two Scholarships; one for herself to attend a Dance Convention this Fall and the other for her MDA Teachers … recognizing Excellent Training 🙂 Way to Go Andrea!

MDA Teachers spent this week at the Toronto Dance Teacher Expo 🙂 A Teacher Based Event designed to Inspire, Rejuvenate and Update Studio Owners and Dance Teachers on the latest Business Improvement Techniques and Dance Teaching Concepts 🙂 A very Empowering Convention and Great way for our MDA Teaching Team to Reconnect, Bond and Share with others in the Dance Industry across Canada and the United States 🙂 This is our Third Road Trip to the Toronto Dance Teacher Expo and we are proud to be able to Bring our Enthusiasm and Passion for Dance back to our Students in Muskoka <3 MDA is Proud of its Foundations for a Strong Technique and Igniting Passion for learning Dance <3 Teaching Excellence Since 1983!

A FANTASTIC WEEK AT THE PRESTIGIOUS DANCE AWARDS IN LAS VEGAS FOR MDA THIS SUMMER!
What a Fantastic Week for MDA Dancers <3 10 Seniors, 9 Juniors & 2 coaches making up the 2017 MDA National Dance Team travelled to Las Vegas, Nevada last week to attend a Prestigious Convention and Competition “The Dance Awards” During the first Three Days they competed in Musical Theatre (89.00), Jazz (89.00), Hip Hop (90.00) and Tap (91.00). Their marks were high and the competition was fierce. It was such an opportunity to be able to compete at such an elite event and …do so well. The Dance Awards is not only one of the most recognized conventions in the industry but is clearly one of the most popular amongst celebrity dancers and choreographers. After the competition was over Workshop Classes were attended from 9am-3pm for the next 4 days. Our dancers took classes with Twitch, Travis Wall, Ray Leeper, Mandy Moore, Stacey Tookey … and the list goes on Dancing along side celebrity dancers like Eva Igo, Kalani Hilliker and Brynn Rumfallo from TV Shows, “The World of Dance” and Dance Moms” It was awesome to see them in action and snap a few photos It was particularly exciting when one of our own dancers, Andrea Hill, was picked out of a group of roughly 500 by a Cirque Du Soleil casting agent during a Workshop Class MDA teachers are humbled by the class and professionalism that MDA Dancers displayed A very proud moment for MDA teachers and parents. Thank you Huntsville for allowing this opportunity to unfold. Your generous support and donations over the past two years covered the cost of these 21 team members to attend educational workshop classes with the Best in the Business 🙂

Congratulations on a Fabulous Competitive Dance Season 🙂 MDA Teachers and Parents are very Proud 🙂 A Very accomplished team of dancers … here are just a few Highlights; 60 First Place Ribbons, 27 Second Place Ribbons, 9 Third Place Ribbons 🙂 Big Awards for 15 out of 39 Dance Routines (45 dancers 5yrs -18yrs) placing in High Scoring Overalls, receiving Prestigious Scholarships and Top Recognition. Some dance routines won multiple times during four Dance Competition Events… throughout Ontario this season <3 Overall Awards and High Score Trophy Recognition: Soloists Lyall Turvey, Karlee Comer, Nicola Deroode & Emma Fawcett; Duet and Trio work Hannah Rudge, Sadie Perera, Mackenzie Wilson, Keira McGregor, Tessa Ferguson, Makena Bijl, Cambria Walh, Alexa Ward, Nellie McChesney, Megan Johnston, Jordyn Nash; Group Routine Overall recognition to our new Novice Mini Company for both their Tap & Jazz Routines winning Overall Awards, MDA Petite Company for Acro & Jazz Overalls and to MDA Intermediate Company for Acro, Tap and Ballet Overall Awards 🙂 Numerous Choreography Awards, Technical Awards and Adjudicator’s Choice “Special Awards” were handed out to MDA Teachers for their work <3 Three Notable Accomplishments for MDA Dancers this year were receiving Top Awards for the highest Acro, Ballet and Musical Theatre Mark at a Competition 🙂 After an awesome Competition Season the Team will now prepare to Compete in Las Vegas this summer at The Dance Awards <3
THE MDA COMPETITIVE DANCE TEAM HIT THE STAGE FOR BIG COMPETITION SHOWCASE FUNDRAISER!
Saturday March 25th, 44 members of the Muskoka Dance Academy’s Competitive Dance Team ages 5 to 18yrs hit the stage at the Algonquin Theatre for the premiere of dance routines set to compete this spring. This event is an annual fundraiser in which dancers showcase routines for the first time in front of a live audience. All proceeds from this event will help send the Team to an International Competition in Las Vegas this July. The MDA Competitive Dance Team has travelled 10 times internationally in the last 25 years thanks to the support of local sponsorships. World travels include Pennsylvania, Myrtle Beach, Las Vegas, New York City, Walt Disney World and Spain. The evening also featured guest performances from some of the contestants featured in Huntsville’s Got Talent and a special performance by Community Living’s All Abilities Dance Troop brought down the house. Thank you to all of the performers, parents, family and friends who donated Auction prizes and came out to support these talented dancers. Vegas here we come 🙂
CANADIAN TELEVISION PERSONALITIES (FAMILY CHANNEL & YTV) VISIT THE MUSKOKA DANCE ACADEMY!
From Left to Right: Tanya Karn (YTV; Make It Pop), Bree Wasylenko (Family Channel; The Next Step), Sue Kirwin-Campbell (MDA Studio Owner), Amy Wright (Choreographer & Casting Director for “The Next Step”) Successful Canadian performers from the Television industry visited the Muskoka Dance Academy (MDA) in Huntsville recently to teach dance classes and inspire young dancers to follow their dreams. Former Huntsville resident and MDA student, Tanya Karn instructed dancers in Hip Hop and gave motivational chats last Friday on the importance of performing at your best no matter where you are. This is her third trip to Huntsville this summer. Tanya is an accomplished Canadian Dancer, performing on Tour, featured in Videos and dancing alongside many famous artists. Notable artists that Tanya has worked with include; Jason Derulo, Carly Rae Jepsen, Ludacris, Shawn Desman, Ashley Tisdale, Tegan and Sara, Hedley, Serena Ryder, Fefe Dobson, Kreesha Turner and Fifth Harmony. Tanya is currently a choreographer on Family Channel’s “The Next Step” and plays high school student and back up dancer on Nickelodeon’s hit YTV show, “Make It Pop”. Also visiting the MDA last Friday was professional dancer/actress Bree Wasylenko, teaching a Contemporary class. Originally from Calgary, AB, Bree was a Top 20 Dancer on Canada’s “So You Think You Can Dance”, season 3. She has performed in numerous Videos, Television Commercials and TV Shows and most recently landed the role of “Miss Kate” on Family Channel’s “The Next Step”. Bree is an accomplished Choreographer who was recently featured on Etalk, Canada for her work. This is Bree’s second summer visiting the MDA. This special event held at the Muskoka Dance Academy was part of four Dance Intensive Weeks provided by local Overnight Sports Camp, Winning Techniques, and hosted each summer by MDA Owner/Director, Sue Kirwin-Campbell. “It is particularly satisfying to be able to provide opportunities for young aspiring performers here in Muskoka”, say Kirwin-Campbell, “We are happy to be able to connect dancers to others in the industry”. To top off the day, a surprise visit from one of Miss Sue’s first dance students and long time family friend, Amy Wright. Amy is an accomplished Dancer, Choreographer, Producer, and Casting Director with many credits to her name. She is most famous in the dance world for her involvement in the Shania Twain Movie, choreographing a re production of the dancers on stage in the 80’s at Deerhurst and her involvement with the complete series of videos for Bella Dancerella (a step by step young dancer instructional). She is now currently working as the Head Choreographer and Casting Director for “The Next Step”. Amy is also tied closely to the Huntsville area, growing up at Cedar Grove Lodge every summer with both parents actively involved in the community and now living in Huntsville. The Muskoka Dance Academy is honoured to host this fabulous opportunity for young dancers 🙂
THE MUSKOKA DAMCE ADACEMY TEACHERS ATTEND ANNUAL THREE DAY TORONTO DANCE TEACHER EXPO!
MDA Dance teachers returned home this week from their annual trip to the Toronto Dance Teacher Expo. Miss Sue, Miss Tasha and Miss Lynn were joined by new MDA dance teachers Chloe Garofolo and Sam Moffat to share their passion for dance. During the day, over 50 class seminars were offered in Studio Management, Customer Service, Team Building, Dance Technique, Proper Alignment, Choreography, Dance Progressions, Body Placement … and so much more. Top professionals with years of experience from all over the world provide inspiring ideas and motivational techniques. Paula Morgan, Brian Foley, Rhee Gold, Liz Imperio, Mandy Yip and Scott kufske, were just a few of the many speakers and dance class instructors. MDA teachers made the most of these fabulous three days learning, listening, laughing and bonding together on a solid vision for the studio. We cant wait to continue to give it all back to our MDA parents and students 🙂

This Fabulous Syllabus is a perfect fit to the Muskoka Dance Academy’s artistry and technical training. It is unique and provides dancers at all levels proper tools for learning Acrobatics safely and effectively. Acrobatic Arts is one of the only Acrobatic Syllabus recognized by Cirque Du Solei for having the strongest foundation for training dancers. All Muskoka Dance Academy Acro classes will now follow the Levels provided by the Acrobatic Arts Syllabus. Although already a certified examiner of teachers in Acro with Dance Masters of America, Miss Sue can’t wait to implement all 12 levels of Acrobatic Arts this upcoming season. Acrobatic Exams will now be an available option for all MDA Acro dancers in the future. This is Very Exciting 🙂
THE MUSKOKA DANCE ACADEMY WINS TOP STUDIO AWARD AT EMBRACE DANCE COMPETITION IN ORILLIA!
35 members of the Muskoka Dance Academy’s Competitive Dance Team returned home from Embrace Dance Challenge in Orillia last weekend where they performed 35 dance routines and received 58 awards including a “Top Overall Studio 2016” Award for the highest average of their Top 10 Marks. The dancers were all smiles after a very successful weekend of Outstanding Awards and they were particularly proud to be recognized as a “Top Studio” at this competition. MDA dancers now have a banner which will hang on the studio wall along with more trophies to represent their hard work and dedication. That is pretty cool.

As our Muskoka Community Company gets ready to kick off their 2016 Performance Tour, they were featured by Huntsville’s local television station, Cogeco T,V. MUSKOKA DANCE ACADEMY DANCERS GET FITTED AT THE NATIONAL BALLET SCHOOL OF CANADA!
Five MDA Dancers were so excited to be fitted for their very first pair of Pointe Shoes this past December. They have been working on special exercises to strengthen their feet and toes since the beginning of November and are now finally ready to “Dance en Pointe”! The girls posed for a picture at the Shoe Room in Toronto after they were each individually fitted for their own special type of shoe. Now the work really begins as they attempt to go up on Pointe come January.
This a dream come true for the these young aspiring Ballerinas … exciting!
ONCE AGAIN THE MUSKOKA DANCE ACADEMY SHINES BRIGHT AT THE HUNTSVILLE SANTA CLAUS PARADE!
Over 70 MDA Dancers filled the streets of Huntsville on November 27th during Huntsville’s annual night time Santa Claus Parade. Tiny Mice, Cheerleaders, Hip Hoppers, Acrobats, Aerial Silk Artists and Ribbon Dancers spread their spirit and good cheer to the sounds of the season. Mda Teachers and parent volunteers also took part in this festive event which included a 70′ Float. A great big THANK YOU goes out to Jeremy and CRS Rentals in Huntsville for helping with this years awesome float.
We all had so much fun and plans are in the works for next years MDA Parade Production … stay tuned 🙂

Another MDA teacher certifies in the Paula Morgan Technique!
Miss Kristen, pictured here with Paula Morgan and MDA Owner Sue Kirwin-Campbell, recently completed her Paula Morgan Level One Teacher Exam with much success. It is great to have another PMT certified teacher on board and putting into place the fundamentals for a strong technical dancer. Kristen is an MDA Alumni and we are lucky to have her teaching for the Muskoka Dance Academy. She studied Contemporary Dance and Ballet at the University of Calgary for one year before graduating from the George Brown Commercial Dance Program in Toronto. Kristen is also certified through Dance Masters of America in Acro and Jazz.

MUSKOKA DANCE ACADEMY OWNER SUE KIRWIN- CAMPBELL ADVANCES BALLET TRAINING AT MDA
Keeping Current and staying on Top!
Miss Sue returned home Monday morning from Los Angeles after participating in three days (27 hours) of Level IV Advanced Ballet Training with Paula Morgan. This is the highest level for the Paula Morgan Technique and Miss Sue is thrilled to be a part it. Sue has been training with Paula Morgan for the past 8 years and is one of an original group of teachers to begin certification in the Technique six years ago. Miss Sue already holds certifications in PMT Level I,II & III, which she has been teaching on a regular basis at the Muskoka Dance Academy. Paula Morgan now certifies teachers all over the world, particularly in Italy and the United States and we are lucky to have this type of training in Huntsville. It is an awesome technique and we LOVE IT!
It’s great to be on the cutting edge of dance and one step ahead 🙂
THE MUSKOKA DANCE ACADEMY DANCERS ENJOY ANOTHER SHOW AT THE HUNTSVILLE FALL FAIR!
Young dancers from the Muskoka Dance Academy dance at the Huntsville Fall Fair. This year marks 30 years worth of performances at the Fair for MDA dancers. They are still loving it! The MDA Lollipop Princess was on hand to give out lollipops and free dance classes while an Aerial Silk lessons was held on the big rig for all keen little acrobats. The Fall Fair is a wonderful event and this year’s weather was awesome!
Cute Costumes & Cute Dancers all accompanied by great music seemed to be enjoyed by many on lookers at a great small town Fall Fair.

MUSKOKA DANCE ACADEMY DANCERS PERFORM FOR AT CUTURE DAYS ONTARIO EVENT IN HUNTSVILLE!
Young MDA dancers performed at Fairvern Nursing Home on Saturday September 25th as a part of Culture Days Ontario. Cute costumes, Great music and fabulous smiles were greeted with a very receptive audience of Seniors. It was an honour to be able to perform for such an experienced audience. A wonderful event and good practice for MDA’s youngest performers.
The Muskoka Dance Academy will start it’s Muskoka Tour of Nursing Homes and Senior Residences in January 2016. It feels good to give back to our community.

MDA DANCER GETS HER FIRST BIG BREAK ON STAGE!
Sierra Neudorf, 18yrs, danced in the Deerhurst Stage Show “Hit List” Friday and Saturday night (September 18th & 19th). She filled in all weekend for one of their resident dancers. Teachers, family and friends cheered her on along with MDA Alumni dancers, Allyson and Emily, who came home from University to show their support. What a great experience for Sierra as she embarks on a journey and Life of Dance. Professional, poised and classy … you make us proud!
Sierra will venture out to New York City this Fall to attend a slue of auditions.
DANCING AT MAGIC KINGDOM IN WALT DISNEY WORLD FLORIDA WAS AN ABSOLUTE BLAST FOR MDA DANCERS!
Twenty dancers from The Muskoka Dance Academy Competitive Company had an absolute blast performing at Walt Disney World, Florida, this summer. They participated in both Magic Kingdom day time and night time parades, fully equipped with beautiful dresses, red sparkly “Dorothy Shoes” and lights on their costumes. This was truly an experience of a life time as Main Street USA spectators cheered and clapped for all the dancers participating from around the world strutting their stuff. The dancers also enjoyed a fun time in the many Disney Parks and a special Disney Character Finale Gala Evening. Disney production staff and event producers commented on how professional and well rehearsed the MDA dancers were. We are so very proud 🙂 Way to represent your community dancers!

Muskoka Dance Academy Teacher Tasha Bryant gave birth to a beautiful baby boy on August 15th. His name is Cash Richard Otto Bryant.

Muskoka Dance Academy dancer, Sierra Neudorf, is about to embark on a journey of a lifetime. She is heading to Los Angeles, California, this October to work privately with Miss Paula Morgan!!! This is an opportunity of a life time for any young dancer.
