BALLET JORGEN CANADA YOUTH EDUCATION & OUTREACH

The Muskoka Dance Academy and the  Ballet Jorgen Canada (BJC) have joined forces  to provide local area dancers educational and artistic opportunities in their community.  The Nutcracker Youth Education & Outreach Program  offers casting opportunities, through audition, to young local ballerinas for an up coming BJC performance of The Nutcracker, December 8th & 9th at the Algonquin Theatre in Huntsville.  The BJC has appointed Artistic Director Sue Kirwin-Campbell, of the Muskoka Dance Academy, the position of Local Rehearsal Director for Huntsville and surrounding area, as well as, Evelyn Finlayson of Bracebridge and Tasha Bryant of Huntsville as assistant rehearsal directors.  Fifteen local ballerinas were casted in this year’s “The Nutcracker” production.

*First Audition – Ages 12-17yrs;

Congratulations goes to Alannah Hobbs, Sierra Neudorf, Emily Hill, Robin Hunka & Claire Parkinson, of Huntsville, and Kathryn Kirbyson , of Bracebridge, who were all casted from 17 auditioning dancers  to take on the roles of Squirrels and Dragonflies in this year’s BJC “Nutcracker” Production.  Congratulations also goes to Ramona Phillips of Bracebridge who will understudy a role during the matinee!

*Second Audition Ages 8-11yrs;

Congratulations goes to Andrea Hill, Jaimie Boysen, Mia Smyth & Lyall Turvey of Huntsville, and Jessica Pringle, Wavereleigh Alexander, Shaman Johann & Bailey Marrice of Bracebridge who were all casted from from 27 auditioning dancers to take on the roles of Chipmunks, Frogs, Beaver and Bear Cub  in this year’s BJC “Nutcracker” Production.

OUR TRIP TO NEW YORK CITY SUMMER 2011!

What an incredible trip!  For 18 young Muskoka Dance Academy dancers…a trip of a lifetime.  From dancing in Time Square to sight seeing to professional workshops to checking out Broadway shows, the MDA Competitive Dance Team did New York City up right.

All 13 dance routines entered were awarded above 92%. The dancers were also presented with a variety of Judges’ Special Awards.  Miss Sue and Miss Lynn beamed as the MDA dancers were given continuous recognition for “Performance”, “Awesome Smiles” , “Excellent Energy” and “Superior Showmanship”.

COMPETITIVE TEAM WINS BIG AT THE ALGONQUIN THEATRE

The Muskoka Competitive Dance Team wins numerous awards including 6 Platinum, 24 Ruby, 3 High Gold, 1 Gold Medal Placements at Dance Odyssey held at the Algonquin Theatre May 14th & 15th.

Congratulations to the dancers for receiving “Judges Choice” Awards in Technique, Perfect Ballet Positions, Acrobatic Technique, Acrobatic Strength, Great Energy, Musical Theatre Concepts and Tap Technique! 

Congratulations also to Raylan Stroud and Anne Dube for each picking up a $500 Scholarship to L.A. Dance Camp this summer.

WAY TO GO GIRLS!

COMPETITIVE TEAM WINS BIG IN ROSSEAU

The Muskoka Competitive Dance Team won 10 1st place trophies, 18 2nd place trophies and 4 3rd place trophies recently at “5678 Showtime” in Rosseau. Five Showtime Dance Cup Awards were give out to the Mini and Intermediate Team dancers for outstanding performances in Acro, Tap, Jazz and Musical Theatre routines.  A wopping $1700.00 in Scholarships were awarded to the MDA for overall high mark totals, placing 2nd overall in  12 & under duet/trio categories, 12 & under group categories, 13 & over duet/trio categories and 1st overall in 13& over group categories.
